The Mexican Monetary System

Bringing into Mexico

If you are travelling from within USA, you can bring in and take out bank notes, travellers’ cheques in USD up to the value of $10,000 USD. US Dollars are accepted in most high street shops and stores.

Travelling from other countries it is advisable to purchase a small amount of Mexican pesos before arriving in Mexico and use a debit or credit card facility in Mexico to withdraw money from the available ATM´s and Cash Machines in the local Mexican Currency.

If you are travelling to Mexico, you will need to declare any sums of cash of $10,000 USD or more (or the equivalent in another currency) to Mexican Customs & Immigration.
